Kammy’s pacing board is an enhanced version of pacing board to slow down the
speech of people with problematic speech rate, such as individuals with Parkinsons
Disease, stuttering, and apraxia of speech. Users move a finger along the board
from one circle to another pronouncing one syllable per segment. Different from the
traditional version of pacing board, Kammy’s pacing board allows users to type in
words. After typing in the target words/sentences, users can choose to separate the
words according to the syllables or separate the sentences according to words,
depending on the language. By simply inserting space between the words, users can
create a new circle button. There are three modes users can choose: normal mode,
hand-free auto-play mode, metronome mode, and time mode. Speech pathologists
can use the board for rate control therapy by instructing the client to mark
utterances at the syllable level with finger tapping.
